Motorola R2 MOTOTRBO Handheld Transceiver for DMR Fleets

The Motorola R2 is the entry model in Motorola Solutions’ MOTOTRBO R series of DMR portables. It is a 64-channel handheld with no display, built for everyday commercial work. Motorola’s own data sheet calls it an everyday workhorse. CQFF Radio Communication supplies this radio for wholesale and B2B orders.

Product Overview

The R2 sits at the entry point of the R series, below the R5 and the R7. Motorola builds it without a display, so the front panel carries the push-to-talk bar. Two programmable buttons handle the rest. A status LED and voice announcements report the battery state instead.

Durability is the headline. The R2 carries an IP55 rating for dust and water ingress and is rugged to MIL-STD 810. Motorola states it meets MIL-STD 810 requirements across 11 environmental conditions. The radio also completed an Accelerated Life Testing programme that simulates up to five years of field use. With the 2300 mAh battery fitted it weighs under 290 g.

Audio is where the R2 earns its keep in noisy plants. SINC+ noise suppression uses algorithms to single out and remove background noise. Motorola marks that feature as optional in its data sheets. Selectable audio profiles let you lift low, middle or high frequencies. Speech loudness reaches 101 phons.

The R2 handles analogue and digital in one unit. On the digital side it works in single-site conventional mode, Dual Capacity Direct Mode and Extended Range Direct Mode. Analogue users keep Lone Worker, emergency alert, analogue scrambling and Quick Call II or MDC1200 signalling. That mix is what makes the R2 a low-cost way into DMR.

Migration is deliberate. Motorola says the R2’s user interface will feel familiar to teams already using DP1400 radios. The radio also works with selected MOTOTRBO chargers and audio accessories. Two battery options are official: the 2100 mAh slim pack and the 2300 mAh high-capacity pack.

CQFF Radio Communication stocks the R2 for wholesale buyers. Fleet orders usually combine radios with spare batteries, multi-unit chargers and remote speaker microphones, so send the full list.
